What is IMEI?

IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique number for every GSM mobile phone. It can be found under the phone's battery, on the warranty card, or by dialing *#06# on the phone. GSM networks use the IMEI to identify valid devices, making it possible to block a stolen phone from accessing the network. If your phone is stolen, calling the authorities and instructing them to block the phone using its IMEI number makes it unusable, even if the SIM card is changed.
